Expressing “in addition to” with 除了……（以外），也/还

This structure gives us a lot more freedom to express some really cool ideas!! With this structure we can INCLUDE a bunch of other things. Read through the examples and you'll see what I mean. The subject is put at the beginning of the sentence or right before“还/也”; this is really important, because the "also" nature of these two words is what alters the meaning of 除了....以外 here. “以外”can be left out.

They are all very friendly to me and often help me. |

Wǒ juédé tā jīnnián huì shēng zhí. Yīnwèi chúle zuò xiàngmù zuò dé hěn hǎo, tā hái/yě hé tóngshìmen xiāngchǔ dé fēicháng hǎo. 我觉得他今年会升职。因为除了做项目做得很好，他还/也和同事们相处得非常好。 I think he will be promoted this year. Because in addition to doing a good job on projects, he also gets along very well with his colleagues. |
